SUMMARY:Nix the Knotweed - Lyme
DESCRIPTION:Whalebone Cove by the bridge over Ferry Road – Rte 149 \nThe knotweed has been highly reduced but we still have to weed out the ones that persist and new ones that come up from seeds. We are in our sixth year of tackling the knotweed using the “method of 3s”: cut knotweed down to the ground and remove the plant material; 3 chops each growing season (May\, mid-July\, and mid-August). The cuttings must be carefully disposed of since each little piece will regrow into a new plant. \nBring work gloves\, clippers or loppers. We’ll provide the bags! Bring your own water bottle. Snacks will be provided. \nPlease register: (walk-ins welcome) Openspace@townlyme.org

SUMMARY:Woods Walk Selden Creek Preserve : Lyme
DESCRIPTION:This Woods Walk will explore the Selden Creek Preserve off of Joshuatown Road in Lyme. The Nature Conservancy (TNC) owns the 207-acre preserve on the west side of Joshuatown Road. It is one of the most biologically significant sites on the lower Connecticut River\, the Selden Creek Preserve takes its name from the creek that divides it from the 600-acre Selden Neck State Park. With wooded hills and pristine freshwater tidal marshes\, it provides vital habitat for many plants and animals\, and is also a critical site for wintering bald eagles. Both the Selden white (SW) and the Selden blue (SB) trails lead to overlooks on spectacular vertical cliffs above the Selden Creek wetlands. The orange trail connects the two overlooks. This hike goes through narrow\, sometimes rocky areas\, and had multiple elevation changes. Hiking poles and sturdy footwear are recommended. Meet at the parking area on Joshuatown Road. All are invited to bring light snacks to share along wi th EHLT refreshments.
